The Garden Route has a Mediterranean Maritime climate, with moderately hot summers, and mild to chilly winters. It is one of the richest rainfall areas, most of which occurs in the winter months,

brought by the humid sea-winds from the Indian Ocean. Any time of the year is good for visiting the area, depending if you enjoy a peaceful retreat during the winter months or a bustling holiday

destination during the summer.

Originally christened "Bahia Formosa" (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay can now be accessed by first class national roads, by sea or by scheduled air flights.

Stretching for 80 km along the scenic Southern Cape coast we travel from Knysna to the Tsitsikamma National Park,  proclaimed in 1964 as the

first marine national park on the African continent.

It protects a wonderland of inter-tidal life, reef and deep-sea fish. Dolphins frolic in the breakers, surfing and playing for the sheer joy of life, and the gentle giant

of the ocean, the southern right whale visits here, coming inshore to breed.

We visit Plettenberg Bay, Natures Valley, Bloukrans highest bungi bridge in the world, Stormsriver Bridge,
This, "the place of much water", is the Tsitsikamma National Park.
