FANCOURT COUNTRY ESTATE

A combination of Olde Worlde charm and contemporary luxuries is what makes the Fancourt Hotel so distinctive.

At the Manor House, you will find a restful haven in a building with a history dating back to the beginnings of the 19th century: in 1847 Henry Fancourt White established a workers' base at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains for the construction of the Montagu Pass, which you can still travel on. Now a National Monument, the Manor House with it's 34 bedrooms is situated in a wooded parkland and is the perfect base for your leisure or conference activities.

The Manor House, now a national monument and structurally unchanged since its origins, serves as a fine example of the fine engineering skills of Fancourt White.

WESTERN CAPE

"A Place of Dramatic Beauty and Excitement"

Here the visitor is welcomed to the rich landscapes of world-class Winelands, the spectacular colors of the Namaqualand flower kingdom, sandy beaches, a first-class whale watching coastline and excellent golf courses. The inhabitants of this part believe that it is God's own country and by no means an overstatement.  Rising above the beautiful city of Cape Town is Table Mountain surrounded by clean, well-kept beaches.  The peninsula mainly consists of forest and Fynbos and a haven for the golfer, hiker, birdwatcher, sailor, and diver. Very popular is the fresh selection of seafood, e.g. Cape rock lobster (crayfish) and perlemoen. Further inland lays the fertile green valleys of the Cape Winelands, surrounded by proud mountain ranges. Towns and villages feature strong historic backgrounds and many museums and monuments can be visited.   An enchanting cultural experience awaits one at the many wine estates to be visited.  There are over 20 top-class golf courses in the Cape Peninsula and not to be missed is the popular Garden Route, where one finds the up-market Fancourt Estate -  two 18-hole courses which, condition-wise have no equal in South Africa.  Besides the wind in the Western Cape, the possible cold and wet winters, for most part the weather plays along for the golf player.   Courses in the Cape Peninsula:  Fancourt Estate, George Golf Club, Knysna Golf Club, Mossel bay Golf Club, and Plettenberg Bay, Goose Valley Country Club.

Garden Route

Through the seasons a magical display of lush vegetation and colorful floral beauty line the Garden Route. Sheer cliffs plunging into the Indian Ocean, glittering white beaches and lake-speckled mountains make for one of the most scenic journeys on earth. From the small fishing village of Hermanus through Mossel Bay and George, enjoy the panoramic splendor, which will lead you to Plettenberg Bay. This haven has resisted the temptation of becoming a tourist trap despite its popularity with South Africans and International visitors alike

ROYAL CAPE Golf Club

The history of this beautiful golf course had its beginning on the 14th November 1885 when a meeting, chaired by Lt. Gen. Sir Henry d'O Torrens, was held at the Castle "for the purpose of introducing the game of golf and starting a club for the same." Thus the Cape Golf Club, the first
in South Africa, was born.

It was on the Waterloo Green at the Wynberg Military Camp that the Club established its first real home. In 1891 the Club moved to its second home on the Rondebosch Common and from this time the history of golf, not only at the Cape Golf Club but also throughout the Peninsula, was one of continual and rapid growth.

Unfortunately the Rondebosch Common was open land and used for recreational purposes by the general public. To maintain the course in good condition, with horses galloping across the greens and football being played on the fairways, was well nigh impossible. And so a third and final home for the Club was found and in 1905 the move to the present site was made. The official opening took place in 1906 and in 1910 the Club hosted the SA Open and the SA Amateur Championships for the first time.

In that year the Club was visited by HRH The Duke of Connaught who was representing the King at the opening of the first Parliament of the Union of South Africa. King George V, to commemorate this visit, conferred the title "Royal" on the Cape Golf Club in the same year.

Length of Course: 5.787m

The Royal Cape is well known as the oldest golf club in South Africa. This fact however should not overshadow the pure beauty and quality of this course.

FANCOURT Hotel & Country Club

Outeniqua Course 5.996m

The 36-hole Gary Player designed golf course is maintained to the highest standards. The clubhouse overlooks the Par 5 18th green, a spectacular finishing hole over water.

There is no doubt that this is one of the best golf and vacation facilities in the world.  The two 18-hole courses, Outeniqua and Montagu, are superbly designed by Gary Player and always in exquisite condition.  The estate's setting, near the picturesque town of George underneath the Outeniqua Mountains, is so beautiful that it  almost exhausts superlatives.  The clubhouse contains a Hall of Fame, which features Player's 12 all-time greats. The heart of the international-class Fancourt Hotel is the magnificent old Manor House, a national monument built by Sir Henry Fancourt White.  There are some very fine restaurants, a health and beauty center and a golf school for beginners.

Suffice to say your stay here is guaranteed to be a pleasure. Erinvale

Nestling under the majestic Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains on the way to the Garden Route, the Erinvale Estate offers the perfect Cape destination - whether it be for the best golfing experience contesting the estate's international golf course, exploring the mountains and winelands or simply the need for fine accommodation during your visit to the fairest Cape.
Designed by Gary Player this 18 hole championship golf course has fast become renowned throughout the golfing fraternity, both here and abroad, playing host to the 1996 IGA World Cup of Golf. In 1996, Erinvale Golf Course hosted the World Cup of Golf. The players from thirty-two participating nations were left with two lasting memories. First, the quite majestic play of eventual winners Ernie Els and Wayne Westner playing for the host country South Africa and second, the visual splendour of the surrounds to the Gary Player designer golf course.

Ernie Els is still a regular visitor and he will vouch that from the championship tees, Erinvale is a real test for any golfer. It is a course of two moods. The first nine holes are built on flat terrain with challenging holes made more difficult by strategic water hazards and an array of different style bunkers. These range from traditional large, well shaped bunkers, to some with railway sleepers holding up steep, sandy slopes. Sod bunkers (as seen at the 17th at St. Andrews in Scotland) have been introduced by the Gary Player Design Company and these are as challenging as they are aesthetically pleasing. The second nine holes are on undulating high ground. Here the scenic splendour might distract the player from the continuing challenge. Again, water and bunkers are the main feature with the added test of sloping lies. The greens at Erinvale are huge and well shaped allowing for several different pin placements. A feature of the layout is that different coloured flags tell you the position of the pin.

18 Holes 6 400 Meters Par 72: The Erinvale Golf Estate nestles at the foot of the Helderberg and Hottentots Holland Mountains in Somerset. Designed by the Gary Player Design Company with extensive sod layering in bunker faces; wide, gently undulating kikuyu fairways, Penn Cross greens; water on six holes. The rough is well kept and playable. Host to the 1996 World Cup of Golf.

George Golf Club

18 Holes 6 105 Meters Par 72: Situated next door to Fancourt and every bit as scenic as its better known neighbour. George features in the top ten list and it’s easy to see why. This undulating, densely wooded course is an established favourite because of it’s scenic setting and memorable layout. The course feels as if it has been carved out of a forest but the fairways are a generous width.
